On 26 January, SRSG Parfait Onanga-Anyanga met with AU Political Affairs, Peace and Security (PAPS) Commissioner, Bankole Adeoye. They exchanged views on the progress in implementing activities and programmes of the AU-UN Joint Framework for enhanced partnership in peace and security and on the preparations for the upcoming Thirty-Sixth Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the AU. They also discussed some of the planned side events including the roundtable briefing on the Joint Sahel Assessment, the financing of AU-led peace operations, the climate, peace and security nexus, political, peace and security developments and response initiatives for conflict situations in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, Libya, and Ethiopia, among others. Ambassador Bankole and the SRSG Parfait Onanga-Anyanga further exchanged views about preparations for the upcoming Joint Task Force meeting of the AU Commissioners and UN USGs in the area of peace and security.
