SRSG to the AU and Head of UNOAU receives AU High Representative for Silencing the Guns

On 8 March, the SRSG to the AU and Head of UNOAU received the newly appointed AU High Representative for Silencing the Guns, Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas. In his remarks Dr. Chambas highlighted that the AU-UN partnership was crucial in realizing the vision of Silencing the Guns in Africa by 2030 and welcomed the UN’s full support to the Silencing the Guns initiative. Congratulating Dr. Chambas on his new appointment, the SRSG noted that Africa was increasingly confronted with complex challenges, including unconstitutional changes of government, inter-communal crisis, terrorism, extremism and climate change, all of which are driving conflicts in various parts of the continent. He assured Dr. Chambas of UNOAU’s full commitment to supporting his efforts in accelerating the implementation of the Silencing the Guns agenda and underscored the imperative of African ownership and leadership in advancing key AU initiatives and priorities.
