From 14-19 November, UNOAU participated in a Pre-Deployment Verification (PDV) mission of the Uganda Level 2 Field Hospital in Jinja, Uganda. Participants of the PDV included the AU Commission, UN Support Office in Somalia, AU Transition Mission in Somalia, and UNOAU. The PDV sought to assess the capabilities of the hospital ahead of deployment, and the verification process entailed inspections of equipment and assessments of personnel. It is expected that the forthcoming deployment of the hospital to Somalia will improve the effectiveness of ATMIS’ medical capabilities and health services, and, in that regard, UNOAU has been working closely with the AU on the pre-deployment, pursuant to UN Security Council Resolution 2687 (2023).
