On 28 November 2023, the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and the African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat convened the seventh African Union-United Nations Annual Conference in New York. They stressed their deep concern regarding the current international situation and expressed their regrets on the dangers and risks that challenge the common and shared values of both organizations. The Secretary-General and the Chairperson reviewed progress in the implementation of the “UN-AU Joint Framework for Enhanced Partnership in Peace and Security” and the “AU-UN Framework for the Implementation of Agenda 2063 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” and signed the AU-UN Joint Framework on Human Rights.
