UNOAU participates in the 30th Commemoration of the Genocide Against the Tutsi in Rwanda

On 7 April, the Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security of the African Union Commission (AUC), in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda in Ethiopia, observed the 30th Commemoration of the Genocide against Tutsi in Rwanda, at the AU Headquarters, under the theme "Remember-Unite-Renew". The UN-AU Joint Task Force on Peace and Security holds its twenty-third consultative meeting

On 16 April the United Nations-African Union Joint Task Force on Peace and Security held its twenty-third consultative meeting in New York. The meeting reviewed the status of the partnership between the United Nations (UN) and the African Union(AU), with an update on the implementation of the Joint UN-AU Framework for Enhanced Partnership in Peace and Security. UNOAU participates at AUPSC Exhibition Day on Humanitarian, Peace, and Security

On May 13, the African Union Peace and Security Council (AUPSC) held an Exhibition Day on Humanitarian, Peace, and Security at the African Union headquarters as a key activity to commemorate its 20th Anniversary to showcase the efforts deployed over time to address humanitarian situations across the Continent, organized in collaboration with World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). 20th Anniversary Colloquium of the African Union Peace and Security Council, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

The African Union (AU) marked a significant milestone commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the Peace and Security Council (PSC) and Africa Day. The event, held under the theme "20 years of the AU PSC as the standing decision-making organ: The next phase of peace and security we want in Africa," attracted an array of distinguished guests, including the President of Tanzania, H.E. Samia Suluhu Hassan, AUC Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat, ministers, former presidents, andvarious representatives from the United Nations, European Union, and the diplomatic community. Read more.

UN-AU convene first meeting on UN Security Council Resolution 2719

From 23-24 May, the African Union & UN Secretariat Task Teams convened their 1st meeting on UN SCR2719. The two teams exchanged their initial thoughts on the political, institutional & operational implications of the resolution towards its successful implementation. The meeting is an initial step in a process that will lead to the finalization of a joint AU-UN road map that will be submitted during AU-UN annual conference in October 2024. Read more.

On 25 May 2024, the African Union (AU) marks a momentous milestone, the 20th Anniversary of the Peace and Security Council (PSC).
