Informal meeting of UN Security Council President and Chair of the AU Peace and Security Council for July 2025

On 3 July, the Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations and President of the UN Security Council for the month of July, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, met with the Ambassador of Uganda to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union and PSC Chair for July 2025, Ambassador Rebecca Amuge Otengo, for the informal monthly meeting of presiding President/Chairperson of the Councils. UNOAU participates in the 4th Policy Session of the African Union’s Inter Regional Knowledge Exchange (I-RECKE) on Early Warning and Conflict Prevention

On 12 July the AU convened the 4th Policy Session of the African Union’s Inter Regional Knowledge Exchange (I-RECKE) on Early Warning and Conflict Prevention in Malabo, held on the margins of the 7th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting between the AU, Regional Economic Communities and Regional Mechanisms (RECs/RMs). UNOAU participates in the Review of AUSSOM specific Pre-deployment Training Package for Individual Police Officers

On 17 July, UNOAU participated in a workshop organized by the African Union Commission at the Institute for Security Studies in Addis Ababa. This was the second session in a series, following an earlier workshop held from 10 to 12 June 2025, aimed at reviewing the AUSSOM-specific Pre-deployment Training Package (PDT) for Individual Police Officers (IPOs). The workshop brought together a technical working group with participation from AUPSOD, ISS, GIZ and UNOAU representatives. Read more.

UNOAU participates in AU Validation Workshop for the Handbook for AU Monitors in the AU Monitoring Verification and Compliance Mission

From 17-21 July, UNOAU participated in an AU workshop to validate the Monitors Handbook for the AU Monitoring Verification and Compliance Mission (AU-MVCM) in the Tigray region of Ethiopia. The workshop was attended by representatives from the AU Commission, the AU-MVCM, AU Member States contributing personnel to the AU MVCM (Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa), representatives from Ethiopia and Tigray Regional Administration, UNOAU and African Development Bank. UNOAU supports the AU Pilot High-Level Training on AU’s Operational Guidance Note Draft on Oversight and Accountability of the Security Sector

From 23-24 July, the AU, jointly with the African Policing Civilian Oversight Forum (APCOF), and with support of UNOAU, organized a pilot high-level training related to the AU’s Operational Guidance Note (OGN) on Oversight and Accountability of the Security Sector, with a specific focus on parliamentary oversight. UNOAU Participates in the Development of Generic Leadership Training Package for AU Senior Police Management Team in PSOs

From 24-26 July, UNOAU participated in a workshop organized by the AUC Peace Support Operations Division (PSOD) in Debre-Zeit, Ethiopia, as part of the process to develop a training package for Police Senior Management in the context of the African Standby Force (ASF) Pledged Police Standby Capabilities (PPSC). The workshop brought together representatives from AU-PSOD, AU strategic partners (GIZ and ISS), AUSSOM, EASF, PSSG, and RECs/RMs (EASF, NARC and SADC) and other experts. Read more.

On 1 to 2 July, UNOAU participated in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) workshop on the Paris Agreement Crediting Mechanism, held at the UN Campus in Bonn, Germany. Read more.

SRSG to the AU and Head of UNOAU participates in the 13th High-Level Dialogue on Democracy, Human Rights, and Governance

On 29 and 30 July, SRSG Parfait Onanga-Anyanga participated in the 13th High-Level Dialogue on Democracy, Human Rights, and Governance, which took place in Accra, Ghana. The biennial event was held under the theme: “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations”, which aligns with the African Union’s theme for 2025. Read more.
