UNOAU participates in the AUPSC 1220th meeting to brainstorm on the Summit of the Future's duty

On 5 July, SRSG Parfait Onanga-Anyanga participated in the AUPSC’s 1220th meeting to brainstorm on the Summit of the Future scheduled on 22 and 23 September. The meeting, held in open session, was chaired by the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Angola to the AU and AUPSC Chairperson for July, Ambassador Miguel Cesar Domingos Bembe. Read more.

SRSG to the AU and Head of UNOAU participates in the opening and closing ceremonies of the “Preparatory Meeting to Launch an Inter-Sudanese Political Dialogue Process”

On 10 and 15 July, SRSG Parfait Onanga-Anyanga attended the opening and closing ceremonies of the “Preparatory Meeting to Launch an Inter-Sudanese Political Dialogue Process”, organized by the African Union Commission (AUC) through the High-Level Panel on Sudan (HLP-Sudan), in collaboration with the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). On 17 and 18 July, UNOAU supported and participated in a Consultative Meeting on Strategic Priorities and Guidelines on Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) and Security Sector Transformation/Reform (SST/SSR) in Juba, South Sudan. Read more.

The 11th African Standby Capacity Coordination Meeting in Dakar focuses on human rights compliance in peace support operations

UNOAU participated in the 11th African Standby Capacity (ASC) Coordination Meeting, held from 15th to 19th July 2024 in Dakar, Senegal. The meeting was co hosted by the African Union (AU) Commission and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, with support from the Training for Peace Programme (TfP) and the African Center for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD). UNOAU participates in Joint AU-UN Advisory and Assessment Inspection of Burundian helicopters to be deployed to Somalia

From 15 to 25 July, the United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU) participated in a joint United Nations (UN) - African Union (AU) Advisory and Assessment Inspection of two Mi-8 utility and two AB-412 attack helicopters of the Aviation Unit of Burundi to be deployed in Somalia under the African Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS). The exercise was conducted in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and in Kampala, Uganda, respectively. Read more.

UNOAU supports the AU in development and delivery of a training of trainers course in compliance and accountability for senior civilian, police and military officers of the NARC

From 22 to 29 July, in Cairo, Egypt, UNOAU, in collaboration with the OHCHR team working on the AU Compliance and Accountability Framework (AUCF) Project, supported the AU in the development and delivery of a training of trainers programme in compliance and accountability for senior civilian, military and police officers from various Member States of the North African Regional Capability (NARC) Standby Force. UNOAU and CCCPA strengthen partnership with New MoU

UNOAU and the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA), an Egyptian public agency established in 1994 by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the Aswan Forum in Cairo on 2-3 July. Read more.

On 2 and 3 July, SRSG Parfait Onanga-Anyanga attended the Aswan Forum in Cairo, Egypt. This year’s edition focused on ‘Africa in a Changing World: Re-envisioning Global Governance for Peace and Development’, underscoring how ‘existing structures and frameworks of global governance are falling short of ensuring a just and fair global order’. Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed visit to Addis Ababa

Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed visited Addis Ababa from 20 to 23 July. During the visit, SRSG Parfait Onanga-Anyanga warmly welcomed her and joined her at the opening of the Preparatory Committee for the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development. Read more.
