UNOAU participates in the AUPSC Session on Hate Crimes and Fighting Genocidal Ideology in Africa
On 02 April 2025, UNOAU participated in the AU Peace, and Security Council Open Session on “Hate Crimes and Fighting Genocidal Ideology in Africa and the 31st Anniversary Commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda”. The meeting was chaired by Ambassador Rebecca Amuge Otengo, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Uganda and Chairperson of the Peace and Security Council for the month of April 2025. UNOAU participates in joint UN-AU-NATO Workshop on Operational Training Cooperation
From 7 to 9 April, the United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU) participated in a joint United Nations–African Union–North Atlantic Treaty Organization (UN-AU NATO) Workshop on Operational Training Cooperation, held in Entebbe, Uganda. This program was built upon the momentum of the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 2719 (2023) and previous UN-NATO staff engagements, reinforcing the commitment to strengthen collective operational capacities. On 29 April, SRSG Parfait Onanga-Anyanga met with the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Selma Malika Haddadi. He congratulated the Deputy Chairperson on her election and reiterated the UN’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the AU on shared peace, security, development and human rights priorities. The Climate for Development in Africa Programme Hosts 6th Africa Climate Talks and SDG’s Forum
On 7-8 April 2025, UNOAU supported and participated in the 6th Africa Climate Talks and SDGs Forum in Kampala, Uganda, under the theme “Rethinking Financing and Ambition for Climate Action, Green Growth and Development in Africa: A Justice Issue.” The event was organized by the AU in collaboration with the AfDB and UNECA (Climate for Development in Africa Programme partners), in the lead-up to the 11th Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development, providing a strategic opportunity to assess Africa’s climate action progress, reflect on outcomes from COP29, and build regional consensus toward COP30. UNOAU facilitates the Informal Meeting between AU PSC Chairperson and UNSC President for April 2025
On 10 April, the United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU) facilitated an informal meeting between the Chairperson of the AU PSC for April, Ambassador of Uganda to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU, H.E. Rebecca Amuge Otengo, and the President of the UN Security Council for April, Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations, H.E. Jérôme Bonnafont to share information on the programmes of work of the respective Councils and on related other matters of mutual interest. Read more.

On 7 April, SRSG Parfait Onanga-Anyanga participated in the Geneva-Addis Ababa Peace Dialogue on Climate, Peace and Security, organized by the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform, the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, and Amani Africa, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The “Geneva Peace Week Meets” initiative is designed to strengthen collaboration between multi-lateral hubs engaged in peace building, bringing together key actors working on sustaining peace across institutions and geographies.
